The Slow Food Weekend is all about slowing down and indulging in a unique Margaret River food experience.

Our weekend food and accommodation experience takes place entirely at Tanah Marah, allowing you to totally relax. Soak up the atmosphere, the divine food and the stunning location.

We’ll share some of our best local gourmet secrets, and teach you to make dumplings to die for.

The numbers for this weekend are limited to ensure everyone can get the most from this experience. Where possible all the food comes from local producers.

Campfire Foodie Lunch

Join us for an alfresco campfire lunch hosted by Kellie Tannock of Walk Talk Taste Margaret River – one of the region’s leading food, wine and story-telling experiences.

Kellie will share the region’s premium food and wines in a cosy and luxurious canvas setting.

Sit back among the tall trees of Tanah Marah and listen as Kellie tells the stories and secrets of the famous Margaret River region. Savour the local produce she has carefully selected for your enjoyment.

It’s a perfect introduction to your weekend of indulgence.

Dumplings of Caucasus Experience

Masterchef’s Samira Damirova will lead a ‘Dumplings of Caucasus Experience’ on Saturday afternoon.

You’ll make a variety of dumplings from the Caucasus region near Azerbaijan (between Europe and the Middle East), then once they’re ready you’ll take part in a magnificent dumpling feast.

What you’ll learn

Samira will teach you to make a variety of dumplings, and give you recipes for each so you can feel confident to reproduce them at home.

There will be both meat and vegetarian dumplings, and a number of different types of pastry.

Samira will demonstrate how to make saffron broth and teach a few different sauces to go with the dumplings. She’ll also show you a few different ways to plate up the dumplings to look spectacular.

About the cuisine

The Caucasus is a mountainous region between Europe and the Middle East. The local cuisine is influenced by both Europe and the Ottoman Empire.

Mountain people eat a lot of dough in the wintertime; Samira says pretty much everything is enclosed in dough. The flavours are simple, yet captivating and delicious. Anyone can make such dumplings.

Walnuts are important to the cuisine in that area, so there will be chilli sauce with walnuts and garlic.

The Dumpling Feast

All participants are invited to take part in the feast on Saturday night.

We will serve wine from our neighbours at Victory Point wine with dinner (no need to drive home afterwards!).

Kellie is the “Chief Walker and Talker” of Walk Talk Taste, and brings a wealth of local knowledge to the table, literally.

As a traveller, she has enjoyed warm welcomes, regional gourmet specialties, local knowledge, new friends and plenty of fun the world over.

It’s her aim to deliver that same sense of joy in her Margaret River foodie experiences.

About Samira Damirova

Samira was born in Azerbaijan, and didn’t leave her country for the first time until the age of 22. She has travelled extensively and is now married to an Australian and lives in Margaret River.

Samira was a contestant on Masterchef in 2018. As she didn’t get eliminated until very late in the piece, she was away from her children for 6 months, and tells some interesting stories about that time of her life.

Cost

The Slow Food Weekend will cost $240 per person, which includes the Campfire Lunch, the Dumplings of Caucasus Cooking Experience, and the Dumpling Feast.

Coffee from Red Feather and Margaret River Coffee Roasters will be available throughout the day. 

This event is being offered to chalet guests only. The chalets accommodate up to 4 people. Bookings are for a minimum of two nights, at $340 per night.
